As we all know there are countless puppies and kittens being contained in pet stores across Canada and sold for profit. Most often than not these poor animals are imprisoned in small little cages with minimal opportunity to run, play, socialize and be free. They are forced to sit all day and night in these squalid conditions consisiting of them sitting in their own feces and urine, in the hopes that someone will buy them and take them home one day soon.

I had a horrendous experience of my own at a pet store recently which forced me to take action and write this petition today. I saw a larger puppy in a cage that was barely big enough for him to sit, let alone lay down. This bothered me so much, I approached the owner and was horrified when he laughed at my concern and just walked away.

We all need to take a stand for these poor animals that don't have a voice and deserve so much more than the sad existence they live in these pet stores. This ban shall also bring us closer towards eliminating puppy mills, as the puppies we see in pet stores often come from these horrific places. Let's all join together in the fight to make it illegal for pet stores to carry puppies and kittens.

There was an article published in the Vancouver Sun (Tues. Oct 4 pg. A8) about Vancouver City Council urging to ban puppy sales in retail stores. In Richmond, BC this ban is already in effect and now sets a precedent for us to follow and make this happen in all municipalities across Canada.
