It's the big supermarkets that dictate the banana specifications to growers! If the growers challenge big supermarket chains and try to change banana specification requirements, growers risk losing their livelihood through losing supply contracts with supermarket chains resulting in farm workers losing their jobs! Supermarkets will just go and buy from farms who will meet supermarket demands! Supermarkets say that it's the shoppers, you and I, who dictate these banana and any fruit requirements because we won't buy fruit that is 'not quite right'. What can you and I do to effect change?

Save the banana. Since the show was on the television I have noticed that my local Coles has a bigger variety of banana shapes and sizes. I now try to buy the underdogs.

So many banana cakes that could have been made, so many banana smoothies that could have been whizzing around in the blender. Save the banana, the small, the overly large, the ugly. Don't waste food.

Wow, that is 14,600,000 bananas a year, or 1,187,840kg of banana wastage a year.
