Ban TikTok in California to Protect Privacy and Mental Well-being
While many may see TikTok as a fun harmless way to pass the time, in reality, it is deteriorating users' mental health, attention spans, and is being used to spy on its users. The seemingly never-ending amount of short often mind-numbing content found on TikTok is causing not only a lack of attention span within today's youth but can also be correlated to depression and anxiety. Depression and anxiety are at an all-time high among the youth of America, and many studies show that social media sites such as TikTok can play a large role in the worsening mental health of young people. What is equally concerning is Tik-Tok specifically is known for selling its user's data to outside multinational companies, and governments. More specifically the Chinese government has been proven to use sites like TikTok as a direct look into the lives of American citizens. Banning TikTok in California would effectively not just help protect our youth from the drastic negative mental effects that it's been known to have, but would also protect the privacy of California residents.
