In light of the recent attack on the children of Sandy Hook Elementary school, which has left the entire community of Newton, Connecticut scarred, the Town of Newton has the right to mourn without disruption from hate groups such as the Westboro Baptist Church.
Given the past trends of the Westboro Baptist Church and their public pondering of the idea to picket Sandy Hook Elementary School, it is safe to say that the members of the church will not take into consideration the raw emotions of grief caused by this great tragedy.
Therefore, we believe that it is in the best interest of the people and town of Newton to go through any means necessary to prevent the church in question from inflicting psychological harm on the public. It is also in the interest of the safety of the church, as raw emotions are easily manifested into anger, which could lead to the harm of members of the church.
In short we request that the organization the Westboro Baptist Church be banned from entering the Town of Newton, Connecticut to prevent any intentional disruption of memorial services for victims of the recent shooting which could cause unnecessary psychological or physical damage to both the community and the members of the church.
I have spent my nights reading through the stories you all are leaving in the comments about how much this protection means to our neighbors. It is clear that we cannot allow our community to be turned into a stage for their cruelty while we are still trying to bury our children.

The momentum behind this effort has moved beyond what I ever imagined possible during these dark days. Seeing this many people demand peace for my neighbors gives me a flicker of hope that we can actually protect our community from further trauma.

Have some decency and leave those poor families alone. There is a time and place for everything and this is definitely not it.

These people are sick. Let the town grieve in peace without having to see those disgusting signs. Stay away from our kids.
