We, the undersigned, urgently call upon the New Zealand government to ban greyhound racing, a sport marred by relentless cruelty and suffering. Despite numerous warnings and promises of reform, the industry has consistently failed to ensure the welfare of its animals. Greyhounds are subjected to grueling training regimes, confined in inadequate conditions, and often face horrific injuries and premature deaths. The staggering statistics of 2,590 injuries, 276 broken bones, and 26 deaths since 2021 are a testament to the industry's inability to prioritize animal well-being. It is time for New Zealand to take a stand against this inhumane practice and ensure a compassionate future for all animals.

Banning greyhound racing in New Zealand is crucial for several compelling reasons. First and foremost, the sport is inherently cruel, subjecting dogs to harsh training, confinement, and a high risk of injury and death. Despite efforts to improve welfare standards, the industry has repeatedly failed to protect its animals, as evidenced by the alarming rates of injuries, broken bones, and fatalities. Additionally, greyhound racing often results in the neglect and abandonment of dogs once they are no longer deemed competitive. By banning this practice, New Zealand can demonstrate a commitment to animal welfare, setting a moral standard that aligns with contemporary ethical values. Furthermore, eliminating greyhound racing would help prevent the gambling and corruption issues associated with the sport, fostering a healthier and more humane society. It is imperative that New Zealand takes decisive action to end this outdated and inhumane practice, ensuring a compassionate future for all animals.

We need to stop this 'sport'. Its wrong to use dogs for entertainment like this. It also fuels gambling addiction which is unhealthy for everyone as well as the dogs being used as it leads to inhumane treatment
