We are sick and tired of terrified pets, hearing of lost pets, injured pets. And sick to death of the noise - it sounded like Baghdad or Afghanistan last year.

I am so not looking forward to November 5th getting closer...I am over the inconsiderate people that let them off for weeks and months after. It's time to ban them and just have public displays!

Fireworks have to be banned for the sake of the animals. Especially my dogs

my cats are going crazy because of fireworks, people start them at 9 pm with no reason, sounds are horible, I don't like it. Nobody asked me if I aproove this noise. I want to ban use of fireworks, it's not healthy for me, for my pets and very not healthy for nature and wild animals. Please ban firework.

I agree, ban the sell of Fireworks. Only controlled public displays should be allowed.

How are we going to pressure the government into stopping this habit of dead beat's wasting money and destroying animal lives, I am a shift worker and feel for people that also work shifts, The idiots that buy for the Guy Fawkes in bulk then shoot them off for the rest of the year I can't fathom?

Ban all fireworks for public use. There is no reason for them. Pets, noise, danger, litter, wildlife. All issues with fireworks.

It really only makes sense to have commercial displays, because store-bought fireworks are darned expensive and not that great anyway.

It is a disgrace that vested economic interests of a few ,override the will of the people which voted this government into power and should be working in their interests..

New Zealanders ARE up with the times & very REAL - it's the GOVT that isN'T by allowing the private use of fireworks to continue knowing full well the damage they do. Accordingly if you're going to make accusations then take it up the right people i.e. NZ Govt - NOT the people who want them banned.

ok, so it takes NZ about 20 years to catch up with Australia - times up we need to change. I vote to Ban the public sale of fireworks and enjoy the wonderful organised displays which are controlled and safe, and held at reasonable times for all to enjoy not the intermittent any time goes personal displays that carry on for months after on a 24/7 basis. these people appear to be more from the lower socio-economic group, that have the government funding to afford fireworks, alcohol, tobacco and gambling before food, health and family values at the expense of the taxpayer. get real NZ get up with the times!
