Sturofoam should be banned everywhere. There are alternatives which don't have such dire consequences to the environment.

When I take walks with my dog or ride my bicycle I am angrily aware how some Styrofoam containers/refuse pieces are thrown on the ground. At least if more degradable/compost type materials are used by food service establishments, this system of horrible discards may possibly dissolve as desirable compost.

I own a bagel shop in Troy, I use compostable disposables, and it's an action like this that's a step towards all restaurants using disposables that will break down in landfills.
Not even a recycling facility can take styrofoam. Once it's created it's forever waste.

I have been sampling and replacing ocean plastics the past 6 years at Ecovative Design in the Capital District. Anything we can do to save plastic for important applications and limit polystyrene manufacturing and waste stream in our environment is worth doing. Please expand the ban. Banning it for packaging would greatly boost a local green tech manufacturing company - Ecovative!

Polystyrene is not recyclable and not compostable. There are plenty of affordable and environment-friendly alternatives available. No business ever went under for paying a few pennies more for earth friendly products. Reducing the use of polystyrene is good for our environment. Polystyrene breaks into small pieces, so it’s hard to clean up and gets eaten by fish and birds. We use for a few minutes, but it stays forever. Polystyrene products are comprised of Styrene and Benzene, organic compounds associated with cancer. Styrene can migrate from polystyrene containers into food and beverages when heated, or when in contact with fatty or acidic foods. Workers who make the product are even more endangered. In the landfill it never breaks down.
