We are killing the sea with our plastics consumption. And poisoning ourselves in the process.
Why is this permitted?

There are so many good alternatives to polystyrene that are environmentally compatible. The county wide conversion to those alternatives needs to take place.

We shouldn't be putting our food in containers that take a minimum of 500 years to biodegrade. It's a wasteful and expensive use of resources to be putting this material in our landfill. Thank you.

Please enact an effective ban. I believe this was the original intent -- let's follow through and get it done.
Some of the cities that have done it:
New York City (and several other cities in New York)
Takoma Park, MD.
Seattle, Washington.
Washington DC.
Miami Beach, FL.
Freeport, Maine.
Portland, Maine.
Nantucket (City & County), Massachusetts.
Oakland and Berkeley CA

I strongly believe that all Styrofoam should be banned. We should be using compostable products that are available now to protect our health and our environment.

Businesses existed and were successful for many years, before styrofoam was available, and it's only the low cost (according to the owner of the Pearl Street Diner) that keeps them using it. But we more than pay for that in environmental, landfill and disposal expenses!
