Ban Styrofoam in Alaskan restaurants

There are accessible and affordable alternatives to styrofoam.

No more styroam foam! The ANC dump STINKS. It didn’t when I was growing up. Let’s stop filling it when we could be using paper

There are a lot of great alternatives to styrofoam.

There are so many other alternatives that have a better impact on our environment. Styrofoam is not needed and adds to the destruction of our beautiful state.

Styrofoam is harmful to everyone’s health and it is an environmental pollutant. I support HB 25.

With paper-based alternatives readily available, please ban Styrofoam in restaurants.

Removing styrofoam from our to go packaging is a small yet impactful action we can take as communities to limit microplastic in our water and soil.

Single use containers that are not biodegradable make no sense—-there are much better alternatives.

Styrofoam is a terrible container to put our food into.

Please pass this important legislation. Our children and future children are worth it. We all deserve health and safety.

As a former Alaska resident and as someone who regularly visits Alaska to visit family members and to enjoy the beauty I ask you to support this bill and eliminate this hazardous material. Thank you.

We, the undersigned, support House Bill 25, (HB 25) a bill that would prevent restaurants from using disposable polystyrene foam packaging to serve prepared foods. The bill also requires the use of biodegradable or compostable food service ware. Polystyrene foam (“styrofoam”) contains the chemical styrene, which has been linked to health harms including certain cancers (such as leukemia and lymphoma). When used to hold hot or warm foods, styrene leaches into the food and can then be ingested. The manufacturing of styrene also presents a threat to the health of workers. Styrofoam is also harmful as an environmental pollutant. It is lightweight which makes it susceptible to enter into our oceans and other waterways where it can be ingested by fish, seabirds, and marine mammals. It makes up a large percentage of waste mass in landfills, approximately 25-30%. Polystyrene is not recyclable. We support HB 25 as introduced by Representative Josephson and request that you support this necessary bill. #BanPolystyrene!

Every time I see Styrofoam at a restaurant I question whether I should eat there again.

STOP this craziness, do whats right.

It's mind-boggling that restaurants and others still use styrofoam! It's a blatant disregard for the health of our planet!

I beachcomb along all the shores I can, and one thing I ALWAYS find is styrofoam! Our poor state is sick with it!

Stop the inhumanity of flagrant pollution, we're eating and breathing plastic!

Toxins and microplastics leech from these plastic products into the food people eat and do not biodegrade easily. As your constituent, I am asking that you support this ban. Thank you.
