Science fair is the reason why science MCAS scores were so low. 43% of the district had a needs improvement and 18% had warning. In fact, students focus their time into science fair rather than time on subjects that are necessary to know. Science fair wastes time and it is also a waste of education because some science fair projects have little connections toward the topic you are learning about. Science fair teaches you about the scientific method. However that is why students conduct experiments within school grounds so they can actually learn about the material. We can use these labs to learn about the scientific method and at the same time learn about the topics. Science fair also lacks a fund raising. Not everyone can afford materials. and students can pay a hefty price on these materials.
