Why the need for the masks at all? People with mental health issues cannot generally be identified by looking like a horror film extra. And there's the whole implied metaphor of not seeing the real person that I find incredibly distasteful.

How could the use of those gruesome masks be considered useful?

Amazed that anyone thought this was a good idea then of course there is the use of public money to fund this too. Simply atrocious.

What have appearances got to do with mental health issues? It's what's inside that we need to help!

A grotesque, stigmatising, totally counter-productive way of 'educating' students about our lives. Using any masks suggests that we have something to hide or that we 'choose' to hide behind masks. And then to use these distorted, horror movie prosthetics is simply obscene. So many service users are heroically involved in training students and the evidence base shows that direct contact with people from stigmatised groups is the most effective process. I hope the regulators step in swiftly to stop this disgusting practice.

Wrong on all levels. As a nurse this small group of people also demonise nursing- we are not all stigmatising - this was a bad call which can be put right

Disgraceful. Just reinforce the stigma shall we? Individuals with a mental health illness look like anyone else!

I will sign as I have found what you are objecting to. It may make more sense to people, and garner more support, if you show this: http://www.rgu.ac.uk/news/silicone-masks-bring-interactive-nursing-to-life-at-rgu

Appalling & grotesque caricatures which are an insult to people living with mental health challenges. The statement from Robert Gordon University shows a complete lack of sensitivity & awareness of how this will make people feel about being stigmatised by these images.

absolutely disgusting, people with mental health issues are from all wakes of life and look like you and me. Waste of money as well, donate them to the performing arts department

mental health affects 1 in 4 cross the full diversity of the british population. Use of masks dehumanises and even demonises those who require support.

Can't sign unfortunately, as the issue as I see it is not that masks are being used, but that they are so grotesque. These masks could possibly be useful in a training environment, but there is no need to have them looking like people from horror movies. Not acceptable.
