Animal overpopulation is skyrocketing. One horrific reason is backyard breeders posting non-stop on CraigsList who's only goal is to make money off defenseless creatures without a thought to where they will end up.

Another is people who get a pet only to get rid of it because they are moving, having a baby, no longer have time, etc...all of which the majority of time are caviler excuses. The logic given? "I would rather put my pet in a home than in a shelter." Shelters get a bad name, but there are tons out there doing their damn hardest to find every animal a home. Most shelters require references, home checks, and adoption fees. What really happens to your dog or cat after you give it away or sell it to a stranger?

Worst of all is dog fighters scouring Craigslist looking for pets they can use as bait. Dog fighters and animal abusers will dress nicely, show up to meet your pet, act courteously, promise to love the animal, and lie the entire time. Once they have the animal you listed online, it's highly likely that the animal will wind up dead. This is how dog fighters train their animals to fight and instill that kill instinct. Craigslist is a gold mine to animal abusers and dog fighters; it is the cheapest and easiest way to get what they need.

Please sign this petition to permanently BAN the "pet section" of CraigsList! Lets take a step in the right direction to help stop dog fighters, backyard breeders and careless pet owners. We want to encourage people to adopt a vaccinated, spayed/neutered, healthy pet from their local shelters.

Thank you.

There are so many unwanted animals out there. People have no hearts. It's all about making easy money. If people would stop buying, well then there wouldn't be such an over population of animals. Go to the shelters & the rescues. The bottom line is, everyone loves puppies & kittens. Once they grow up, noone wants them. So very sad & inhumane.

its terrifying how many people just hand over animals to total strangers on the internet. stop being lazy and take them to a real rescue that vets people properly! so many innocent pets are being used for bait and nobody seems to care.
