I'd prefer to hear the live performance over the studio takes when at a live performance. If Miles Davis came to put on a performance he wouldn't put on a record, he'd put on a performance.

As a person who spends a lot of time on both sides of the mic and stage, I can tell you things come out better for both sides without the on track lyrics. Not talking about the ad-libs, that's fine and helpful to both. But a rapper rapping over his/herself on stage is a childish no-go.

People don’t want to pay money for someone to waste their time onstage rapping over their album versions. I’ve walked out of shows over that. It looks like you don’t know your songs or don’t care, and overall looks extremely unprofessional. Give people an actual performance or don’t be out here like that taking up dead space.
