Under the now official presidency of Donald J. Trump and his outwardly homophobic Vice President Mike Pence, now would be a better time than ever to start banning this ridiculous practice nationwide. But while Congress is more divided than ever on important issues (such as repealing the ACA) now states must individually speak up against conversion therapy for young LGBTQ people. Conversion therapy is a psychological "treatment" or "spiritual counseling" designed to change a person's sexual orientation from homosexual, bisexual, or queer to heterosexual. The American Psychiatric Association, various medical organizations, and all human rights organizations establish that it is inhumane to psychologically treat a sexual orientation as a mental disorder. Forms of "treatment" used in conversion therapy includes electroshock therapy and inflicting physical pain.
