After the 6th grade, students have gained all knowledge of reading and writing that they will need for the rest of their lives. They should be able to test out of Language Arts classes at the end of their last year of elementary school until college where Language Arts is an option. After this time, all that the majority of classes teach is an unnecessary skill called Close Reading, where instead of becoming lifelong learners, they build a strong hatred of it. Reading should be encouraged, not forced upon children. No real skills are taught in middle and high school ELA classes, they are composed of teenagers threatened to read books they don't enjoy and then dissect it, or recieve a failing grade.

School honestly ruins books for me. I just want to read what I actually like for once.

I don't know it seemed like a good goal to set and I'll send it to the state senator when the petition gets there or close!
