On October 26th, 2015 my rat, Rocco, died of Kaytee food poisoning. I was giving him a bath when suddenly, he fell limp and died. I tried giving him Cpr until I knew he was gone.
Kaytee Rat Food contains Alfalfa which is a harmful ingredient to pet rats. Alfalfa is indigestible in rats and can cause MAJOR stomache problems because of build up of this ingredient inside the stomache which then causes death. Another thing I would like to mention is how Kaytee includes these ingredients in their RABBIT FOODS too! As a proud mother of now only one Rattie because of this HORRIBLE QUALITY brand Kaytee I will not be purchasing this brand of food and will do whatever it takes to stop it.
Yesterday, I went to my local crematory and had my dearest Rocco cremated. Thank you all for the wonderful support. All of the messages I have been receving are very thoughtful.
If you feed your pet rats the Kaytee brand rat food, PLEASE STOP!

I am currently compiling a list of similar experiences from other pet owners to present to the retailers who still stock this product. Check the labels on your current bags and email a photo of the ingredients list to your local feed store manager today. Keep sending your stories because they prove this is not an isolated incident.

Rocco was so blessed to have you as his mommy & hopefully we will be able to prevent other mamas from losing their babies by getting rid of this "food" manufactured by heartless people!!
I'm so sorry! These poor animals don't deserve death over this terrible company/food!
This food is harmful to animals and helps animal cruelty. This food should stop selling and must be banned immediately.
This things messed up. Its terrible that this happened, but im glad that we can work to get it banned.
I saw this on instagram and realized I use this brand of food. I never realized it was so harmful to poor ratties! No animal should ever eat anything that would hurt them. I'm definitely not letting my babies eat this garbage ever again
Free bleeding is gross and unsanitary. It needs to be stopped..

Alfalfa I think is good for rabbits but not for rats sry about Rocco you should sue Kaytee!!
