Ban Drugs in Media: Block Their Influence
There are hundreds of pressures and influences causing teens to do drugs, and we can't immediately eliminate them all, but there are some we can change. The biggest problem that we have the power to change right now is the pressure people get from the media and celebrities. We should regulate the mentions and use of drugs in movies, television, books, and magazines. There should be rules put into place that all types of media, not just movies, have to warn the viewers or readers about the use of drugs. There should also be regulations on what can include drugs at all. Public media like the news, magazines, and newspapers should not be allowed to discuss drugs. There shouldn’t be a news story about every famous person caught with drugs, and the news should focus on the punishments dealt for being caught with them.
Drugs shouldn’t be allowed in movies, books, or TV shows made for teens or children, because seeing teens using drugs in a movie encourages them to try them. We shouldn’t be putting any unnecessary, avoidable pressure on people to drugs.
Putting regulations on all types of media will help our teens escape the pressure society puts on them to do drugs. We can't stop them from reading magazines or watching movies, but we can make them better influences.
