Growing up in California by the water and currently attending UCSB, I have always had a connection to our Earth's oceans and environment. Living in Isla Vista, I have personally witnessed the negative effects our community and plastic consumption have on waste and plastic pollution. Despite the efforts of local organizations or government "bans," it is clear that more regulations need to be implemented.

With 15,000 people living within a 1.9 square mile radius, significant amounts of plastic pollution are produced by local food and drink hotspots as well as the college's party culture. Isla Vista establishments are still offering plastic take-out bags, utensils, packaging, and cups. Furthermore, as long as plastic is consumed, the state of our ecosystem will only get worse.

The Isla Vista Community needs immediate action from restaurants, coffee shops, and other stores in Isla Vista to ban all plastic products. Staff and students at UCSB should also take action, in addition to the community's businesses. Together, Isla Vista can demonstrate to other college towns and US neighborhoods what can happen when humans live sustainably and are environmentally responsible.

By signing this petition, we are encouraging the community to ban all plastic items in Isla Vista to combat pollution and protect our Earth and future generations. Please sign this petition!

We are not seeking any contributions or donations of any kind! Thank you for signing!
