As others have already noted, it makes no sense and is cruel to pull the kids of Orleans North away from their friends to go to Ockerman. Then after their time at Ockerman, they'll be pulled back to Cooper where most of the kids have gone to middle school together and will already have friendships formed. Orleans North kids should attend Ballyshannon and then Cooper with the rest of their peers.

My grandson attends Longbranch Elementary. Going to middle school is a difficult transition for children. Isolating them from their friends and placing them in a new school compounds the situation. Ballyshannon is directly across the street from Orleans. It makes no sense to bus these children to Ockerman. Please don't separate these children at a time when friendships are so important!

It makes no sense for our children in Orelans North to be sent anywhere else but to Ballyshannon. The main road into ballyshannon is directly across the road from one of the entrances to our subdivision.

I live in Ballyshannon and my children will be attending the new middle school. I am signing this petition in support of the families who live in Orleans. The children who live in Orleans should go to the new middle school and remain with the friends they have gone to school with for the past six years.

The districting decision to exclude the French Quarter from Ballyshannon Middle School is very concerning to our family and will definitely play into our future plans of whether or not our children will remain in Boone County Public Schools.

I don't think it's fair that the Orleans communities are the only community that wouldn't be going to the new middle school. All of our kids will build friendships over six plus years. Theses kids are on sports teams together, go to curvy together ect. Many studies have shown that peer relationships are vital to the development of a child especially from a toddler to a child to a pre teen. Not to mention the school would gain money and that's a good thing for everyone. The new middle school is 1.6 mikes away from my driveway. Ockerman is easily four times that.

My younger son had to go to a different middle school than his elementary school friends, and even though he was reunited with them in high school he still at age 27 recounts that event as a devastating time of his life. Please allow these Longbranch Elementary students to have consistency with their classmates throughout the stages of their education.

I have nothing against OMS, both my daughters went there and it's a great middle school, but as a resident of Orleans North with a 5th grader who will be heading off to middle school, it only makes sense that he should go to the one closest to us and that would be Ballyshannon Middle School.

I recently moved into orleans. One of the main reasons was I was under the impression that my daughter would be going to the new middle school. I really don't want her at ockerman. Although, she's only in first grade and has a few years left at Longbranch. I was prepared to send her to the new middle school. Thanks

Having our children go to Ballyshannon only makes sense. They are within walking distance if needed. Also, if you have a student in middle school and elementary school and choose to pick up both children, 1 of the children will have to wait 20+ minutes for you to cover the distance between OMS and LBES.

In addition to the fact that we live within walking distance of the new school and driving to OMS is at least 15 minutes with the awful traffic on 42, I would like to point out - as a parent who works from home, I am locked to a computer all day. When I have a sick child - I am limited to a 15 minute break to get them. Having to get them from OMS is at least a 35-40 minute process.
Another major reason I'd like my kids to go to OMS, I have a middle schooler who is on the varsity track / cross country team at Cooper and OMS offers zero transportation to Cooper. I have one who will be in middle school next year and may be following her sisters footsteps athletically. It's very difficult for me to pick her up from OMS and get her to Cooper for practice on time.
Why not have the kids who are in subdivisions further from Ballyshannon bussed to the other schools???
