We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens of Canton, respectfully petition the Canton Select Board to prioritize a comprehensive engineering evaluation and full reconstruction plan for Bailey Street, Pine Street, and Bailey Court.

These roadways are well beyond their intended service life and have been in deteriorating condition for more than two decades. While temporary patching and cosmetic surface repairs have been performed periodically, these short-term measures have not addressed the underlying structural failure of the pavement.

Recent freeze–thaw cycles have significantly worsened conditions, resulting in severe potholes, surface breakdown, and compromised pavement sections that present ongoing safety hazards. These conditions impact:

• Residents and visitors
• School transportation
• Emergency response vehicles
• Cyclists and pedestrians
• Daily commuters

The current condition of Bailey Street, Pine Street, and Bailey Court is no longer an inconvenience — it is a public safety issue and a matter of responsible infrastructure planning.

We respectfully request that the Town of Canton:

1. Conduct a formal engineering assessment of Bailey Street, Pine Street, and Bailey Court.
2. Develop and publicly communicate a full-depth reconstruction plan.
3. Place this project on the Capital Improvement Program with a defined funding strategy and timeline.
4. Provide transparency to residents regarding next steps and anticipated scheduling.

Temporary repairs are no longer a sustainable or fiscally responsible solution. A long-term investment in proper reconstruction will improve safety, reduce ongoing maintenance costs, and protect the quality of life for Canton residents.

We urge the Select Board to treat this matter with the urgency it deserves.
