Badminton is an activity that can easily be integrated into the PE curriculum, can be supported with little to no money, and is beneficial to students’ physical, emotional, and mental health, and therefore should be offered to the students of Batavia High School.

To whom it may concern,

At Batavia High School, the mission statement is for students to be “Always Learning, Always Growing.” In order to truly reach maximum potential as a student body, participants should be engaged in their curriculum. Physical education is often disregarded and receives little to no respect from its students, which suggests the options within the department need to be broadened to reach a wider appeal amongst its audience. Badminton, an extremely popular activity between students, could be offered as an A/B scheduled class to substitute for classes such as “Personal Fitness” or “Group Fitness”, which cultivate no excitement between students. Courses directly related to a sport, such as “Dance Gym”, have collected more enthusiasm, leading to a far more productive class block. The curriculum does not solely circle around one activity, but rather orbits around the central ideas of its main purpose. Activities such as weight training, cardiovascular workouts, and technique refining can be mixed into this course to have a more well-rounded approach, yet still follow the central idea of furthering one’s skill in badminton. Badminton is an activity that can easily be integrated into the PE curriculum, can be supported with little to no money, and is beneficial to students’ physical, emotional, and mental health, and therefore should be offered to the students of Batavia High School.
