Branches must be central to the party and their role should not be diminished. Amalgamation of poorly functioning branches is an option. There should be widespread consultation re the roles of MEC's, SEC's and FEC's. We have not seen any of the branch review data to make judgments re restructuring. This is remiss of part organization.

I am not supportive of changes that diminish branch influence and participation. It will further erode members rights and concentrate control in the hands of a few which is already a major issue for our party. It will also increase the level of branch stacking that already occurs and even more deals being done by a few.

We both believe that if these party rule changes are endorsed it will be a retrograde step that will fragment the branch membership and the party.

Seriously stupid idea! If branch members are going to be disenfranchised while the hell would they stay? Just because the Libs have hit the self destruct button why would the ALP want to do the same thing? Let the branch members have their say and may the best candidates win.

I am appalled that someone would consider making the present structure redundant. Branches are the life blood of the Australian Labor Party.
