She hasn't even been sentenced yet but already the mother of Baby Ps legal team are believed to be preparing an application under the Human Rights Act for her to be granted lifetime anonymity due to threats made towards her from many people on the internet. The legal basis for an anonymity application would be Article 2 of the Human Rights Act, the right to life, and Article 8, the right to privacy and family life. A High Court judge would have to decide whether these outweighed Article 10, the right to free speech, and the criminal justice system's presumption towards openness. Following her conviction for allowing the death of her poor baby we, the British public do not think she should be allowed to abuse the Human Rights Act in this way. It should be used only to protect those who have respected the Human Rights of others, something she did not by allowing her baby to be tortured in such a cruel way. Threats made towards her where, on the whole, made as a shock reaction to the suffering that the baby suffered, such threats have also been made towards members of the councils social services team but despite their failings they have held their heads up and issued apologies for their wrongdoings and continue with their daily lives without running to the courts. In memory of her poor baby we ask that the public are made aware of where she is, that she isn't allowed to forget who she is once she is released from prison, in as little as 5 years. She should be made to face up to the suffering she put her son through. By giving her anonymity you allow her to go about daily life as a new person, with a fresh start, as if nothing had ever happened. She could live next door to any one of us and befriend us and our children, I for one feel I have every right to know if someone who I would potentially allow around my children was capable of such torture as she was. The nation has been shocked by her crimes and as the majority are caring and law abiding citizens their rights to be angry and make clear their anger should override hers to hide from her actions. Lifetime anonymity will also cost taxpayers millions, that is millions more than went into protecting her son. If granted then our justice system will have failed yet again, not only baby p but every law abiding citizen in this country.
