Devon County Council finally gave in and committed to the road widening project. This victory belongs to all 532 of you who refused to let them ignore these dangerous pinch points any longer. I will be watching closely to ensure they actually break ground instead of just making empty promises.

For many years, Parish Councils along the B3196 from Kitterford Cross to Loddiswell have been lobbying Devon County Council for highway improvements to be made.

The road is a vital link for local residents to access both the A38 and local services in Kingsbridge. It also plays a key logistics role in supplying local businesses. There are several pinch points which makes the passage of 2 vehicles impossible, and this is often exacerbated by the rural nature of the area, with farm vehicles also trying to navigate the road. In summer, visitors cause further congestion to the B3196 and long delays are the norm with negative social and economic impacts.

The condition of the B3196, which services many communities, is totally unsatisfactory.

We strongly ask that Devon County Council investigates the B3196 to produce a plan for road widening at various locations, and that exceptional funding be provided to improve the highway.

Devon County Council remains silent while we continue to risk our vehicles on this crumbling road. I am tired of waiting for them to acknowledge the obvious danger these pinch points create for everyone here.

Trying to get to work in silly season is ridiculous. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been late, lost money (self employed) or paid fees for collecting my children late from their childcare provider as I’m stuck in the lanes

I live just off the main road on the rat run taken when the main road is blocked (often daily or more in holiday season). Mayhem comes nowhere close to describing the traffic chaos which ensues when cars meet each other on the single track road with nowhere to go.

I use this route at least 5 days a week for work purposes. The traffic issues with this road often makes me late for work and appointments elsewhere. Without regular public transport links to the village, Loddiswell, this road is crucial for both locals and local businesses to survive.

Having spent hours sat in traffic jams on this road for many years, this really should be a priority for DCC by now!! Not only for local families that commute to work and school but for major business and tourism to the area! Please get this issue addressed. (Loddiswell PC Cllr).

I wholeheartedly agree with this! I travel this road everyday and have nearly had countless accidents due to cars trying to squeeze through gaps that are not big enough. It is atrocious at rush hour and throughout the day when lorries, tractors and caravans meet causing severe delays.
