Protect Higher Education in Arizona
I am appalled at the proposed cut to the university system's budget, put forth by the Arizona Legislature. The proposed cut to the university system's budget by up to $243 million for the remaining 5 months of fiscal year 2009, and $388 million for fiscal year 2010 would be devastating to the universities and would be the most extreme higher education budget reduction in the state's history, equating to nearly a 40% cut of the Arizona University System budget. The impact of these cuts are unimaginable and would result in large numbers of university staff and faculty losing their jobs and extensive elimination of programs and classes. This proposal would change the University system as we know it, and I do not support this drastic measure proposed.
