The Scottish Cup this season is sponsored by the Government drive Homecoming Scotland 2009; to encourage Scots living overseas to return home to celebrate the 250th birthday of one of Scotland's (and Ayrshire's) favourite sons, Robert Burns.
The draw for this cup has thrown up the possibility of an Ayrshire derby. You couldn't have made it up. What better way to celebrate 'the bard' than to compete for the famous Ayrshire Cup, as well as a place in the next round.
It is what Burns would have wanted.
I have been reading your messages about the history of the cup and it is truly humbling to realize how many people share this simple hope. Your passion is the only reason this idea has gained any traction at all.

The football authorities have lost their way. Bring back some local pride instead of these nonsense slogans.

Used to love the old derby days. It was proper football before the big companies started sticking their noses in everything to sell tickets.
