My name is Demi Prosser and I have created this page to raise awareness for cervical cancer in young girls and women. The current age to be screened for cervical cancer is 25 and my sister died at the age of 21.

My sister was diagnosed with 3rd degree cervical cancer at only 20 years old and lost her battle on the 18th of May 2004. She was refused a screening test for years despite constant complaints of being in pain and having irregular bleeding due to her age. My second oldest sister was given a smear test after having her second child and was told she had 2nd degree cancer but was successfully treated and now has 4 children. Despite my family's history, I was refused a smear test for over 2 years even after having my first child because I was "too young." Eventually a nurse at my local GP agreed to do a screening test and I was lucky enough to come back all clear, others may not be so lucky.

I would like to raise awareness in honor of my sister Kimberley who died far too young. Although the chances of getting cervical cancer may be small in girls/women under 25, it still happens and waiting until you're 25 could be a little too late. Women should be eligible for a screening test once they become sexually active. A nurse who had refused to test me told me the reason behind the age of 25, she told me that women do get cancer under that age but because its rare, the government wont fund it as it "costs too much money." This of course cost my sister her life, what is money when there are people losing loved ones? I can gurantee that a quick screening test costs a lot less than months and possibly years of medical treatment.

We're one step closer to lowering the age and saving lives.
