Did you see the news?
Do you now know the names David Haines and Alan Henning ?
How would you feel if it was your relative you saw kneeling in the dust, knowing that he would not walk away from that place.
I have no connection to these men but I have brothers and sons who through their own generosity could easily have ended up in David and Alan's situation.
I am humbled by their courage and calmness as they were made to read out the rantings of a fanatic, at a time when they must have been so frightened.
If I had been in their position I would have been screaming in terror and pleading for mercy.
The George Cross can be awarded to civilians posthumously 'for acts of the greatest heroism......'
If anyone currently deserves this medal surely it is these men.
