I'm a retired Air Force enlisted medic. I think A1C Stone is a genuine hero, his actions have brought pride to all of us who wear the uniform. However, here is where you all may get annoyed with me. I don't think he is eligible for the Air Force Cross in this situation. His actions were absolutely heroic. But in order to receive a combat valor award, he would have to been acting in his official capacity in serving with a unit at the time of the action. A1C Stone was on leave status during the incident. He is absolutely eligible for the Airman's Medal which is the highest award for bravery an Air Force member can receive for actions not associated with mission-related combat. It is a prestigious medal and I've only met one other enlisted medic in my 21-year-career who was a recipient of that medal.

I further demand that these citations be pinned upon Airman Stone's chest by the Commander In Chief himself.

This is a deserving young man! Our Country has to honor him as France is honoring him. Once a Soldier always a Soldier. In todays world, a Soldier doesn't have to be in combat to serve and protect. Proud to be an American!
