Petition to award the Air Force Cross & Purple Heart to US Airman Spencer Stone. Amn Stone risk his life physically tackling a heavily armed terrorist who was in the process of his attack toward incident passengers on France bound train. Amn Stone fought with this terrorist who had already shot one passenger and was preparing to shoot many others with his automatic weapon. During the fight "hand-to-hand combat" the terrorist severally cut Amn Stone with a knife nearly severing his finger. Amn Stone is serving active duty in the US over seas. Air Force Cross is "Awarded to any individual who, while serving in any capacity with the U.S Air Force, distinguishes him or herself by extraordinary heroism in combat." In the words of our President, "we are fighting a global war on terrorism where the battle-lines are blurred.". The Purple Heart is "awarded to members of the armed forces of the U.S. who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action." In this new world wide war on terrorism, American military men and women are fighting the war where ever the enemy chooses to attack.

Spencer sustained permanent injuries protecting those passengers and deserves to see that sacrifice formally recognized by the Air Force. The stories you are sharing in the comments remind me why this fight is so necessary. I am continuing to push for the formal review process despite the bureaucratic delays.

Seeing this level of support for Spencer humbles me because he put his own life on the line to save those train passengers. This momentum proves that people recognize true bravery when they see it. We are making sure the military understands that his sacrifice deserves official recognition.

After 28 March 1973, as a result of an international terrorist attack against the United States or a foreign nation friendly to the United States, recognized as such an attack by the Secretary of the Army, or jointly by the Secretaries of the separate armed Services concerned if persons from more than one service are wounded in the attack. (He fits the criteria for the purple heart)

You shouldn't have to be in a war zone or deployed to be considered a hero. He helped save many lives at the risk of losing his own.

Extremely courageous act that should be awarded a combat decoration because the attacker was obviously a terrorist engaged in an armed attack. The Medal of Honor may even be more appropriate because A1C Stone was himself unarmed. He acted with total disregard for his personal safety, and undoubtedly saved numerous lives.

If his service doesn't deserve a purple heart medal, then I don't know what does.

I further demand that these citations be pinned upon Airman Stone's chest by the Commander In Chief himself.

This is a deserving young man! Our Country has to honor him as France is honoring him. Once a Soldier always a Soldier. In todays world, a Soldier doesn't have to be in combat to serve and protect. Proud to be an American!
