Do you like animals?

Are you concerned about the environment?

I am on a mission to make Avenues a cruelty-free school, meaning that all the cleaning products we purchase here are from companies that DO NOT TEST ON ANIMALS.

The purpose of animal testing is to assess the safety of certain chemicals and substances for human use before they are incorporated into cosmetic, household cleaning and medical products. The most common tests measure levels of toxicity and corrosivity.

There are no laws or regulations in the United States that protect the rights of the animal test subjects, so their living conditions are deplorable and every animal is killed after being tested on.

Testing on animals is not only unethical but an inaccurate measure of the safety of chemicals and finished products. The bodies of different species react differently to certain substances making it hard to predict how a chemical will react in a human trial; animal testing is an outdated practice.

Running an animal testing lab also contributes excess carbon dioxide into the atmosphere from constantly removing animal carcasses, and waste from some labs has been known to pollute natural water sources.

There are cheaper and more accurate ways to assess the safety of cleaning products without the use of animals. (Click this link for more information https://www.neavs.org/alternatives/in-testing)

Avenues is a progressive institution that is already making efforts to be more environmentally conscious. Our school also aims to graduate students who recognize that they have the power to make a difference in the lives of others, human or any other species.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION IF YOU WANT THE AVENUES MAINTENANCE/SCIENCE DEPARTMENTS AND FLIK TO GO CRUELTY-FREE!

Save the animals,

Etta Yeston
