In Kenya, children borne with autism as viewed as curse to the family. I indeed support the research and hope that one will be done soon in my country where poverty levels are still very high.

Amen! Jeannette- and Marian. It's time for our leaders to step up to the plate and do the right thing. As a SPED teacher, I have seen students lives/enthusiasm crushed because of the ignorant people making decisions when they don't know a thing about these students and how to best serve them. What I have seen is disgraceful. We definetly need specifically trained personnel and facilities and administrators. I have started a web site just recently that is currently under construction called insidespecialeducation.com I hope to develop this as a forum for people to talk openly about everything and anything involving our special needs kids, students, and adults.

Yes, we need adequate research to find the causes of autism and proper diagnosis. Training of parents, educators and aides in the correct strategies is mandatory to help each child enjoy success This is too frequently disregarded! We need to work at each one's own development level and not all the same. It's tragic to crush a child's enthusiasm because of the lack of understanding.

I've just become involved with a 13 year old student whose mother has an attorney working on a case re her son. We need specifically trained personnel and facilities that are designed to provide these students with an education that accommodates their specific needs.

I have taught autistic kids and I strongly believe that we need more research on this condition and possible causes and prevention.

Better understanding would mean better support facilities that allow autists to be better integrated - in the long run (or even medium run) this would mean society would benefit from participation of these often very gifted people

The funding for Autism Research at The National Institution of Health needs to be DRASTICALLY increased and it will only happen if we work together to create a demand that simply cannot be ignored. Please join us and sign this petition to get Autism Research the attention it deserves. While this may be an uphill battle, it's definitely one worth fighting for.
