Autistic Adults in Wales
Despite the Welsh Assembly's "Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Strategic Action Plan for Wales" recent report, very little has actually improved for autistic adults living in Wales.
The enquiry and report focussed predominantly on services provided to autistic children living in Wales and spent little time looking at the plight of autistic adults living in Wales.
According to the National Autistic Society Cymru :
36 % of autistic adults in Wales receive NO support
49% had experienced mental health problems as a result of lack of support
63 % are not in receipt of ANY service as the local authorities do not have appropriate provisions in place
41% have been told they are not able to have support as they do not fit into the existing service structures
81% rely on friends and family for financial support
Less than 50% of adults who HAVE a care manager are happy that their care manager understands anything about autism.
All of the above DESPITE the fact that the Welsh Assembly claim to be investing £1.7 million into care and support for autistic people living in Wales. There is no precise figure as to how many adults there are in Wales on the autistic spectrum and this is because so many receive no support whatsoever and so do not feature in the statistics.
The NAS has started two campaigns ( I Exist and Don't Write Me Off )
Please sign this petition to support our attempt to FORCE the Welsh Assembly to properly assess and improve the needs of autistic adults living in Wales.
Thank you.
