Negative Gearing and the Cap Gains Tax discount should be abolished.

I will vote for the politician that shuts down the grossly inequitable Negative Gearing tax laws. Politicians need to look beyond their own self interests and consider the interests of all Australians. NG is responsible for massive escalation in house prices and the choking out of the supply to first home buyers. NG distributes our hard earned tax to those that speculate on the housing market to the detriment of all future Australians. The government is seeking to find revenue to decrease the deficit and is willing to take from all and sundry...except themselves that have self interests in Negative Geared Properties. If you want my vote and I suspect many others too, you will take action to remove Negative Gearing.

My feeling is that politicians may well be compromised by self interested in the area of negative gearing. Disclosure of negatively geared interest would help to prove or disprove a politicians self interest in the issues.

It's absolutely ridiculous that these politicians are allowed to get away with negatively gearing investment properties, while holding back changes to tax laws that would reduce the excessive speculation that goes on currently. Vested interests!

Negative gearing has distorted the rental market to the disadvantage of low-income tenants. It must be reformed.

If we truly live in a democracy where our elected leaders represents the interests of the people and not their own self-interest significant conflicts that stand in the way of meaningful tax reform must be fully disclosed as the first step to identifying these conflicts and allowing people to be better informed when choosing who to vote for

Important tax reform consideration. Australia has some of the highest rates of income tax deductions in the world.

Billions in subsidy every year to drive up house prices when we could be spending it on health, education, infrastructure. Disgrace.

Good government requires independence, and the perception of independence. We severely lack one of those, and sometimes both.

Australia is one of the only developed countries in the world that allows negative gearing (a subsidy) on investment property against ordinary income. It is an uncompetitive subsidy that does nothing productive for the economy. No meaningful construction of new properties has resulted in this subsidy, instead it lines the pockets of land holders who hold the young to ransom as ‘generation rent’. Negative gearing at best should be isolated to new constructs only, at least this would create construction jobs which would be productive capital. Tossing million dollar 50 year old dog boxes in Sydney & Melbourne between ‘savvy investors’ does nothing to stimulate our economy, instead it creates a generation of renters and prices out FHB. Ironically Australia’s household debt (property) is higher than the USA or Spain ever was, in fact we are comparable to Ireland. Haven’t we learnt anything since the Global Financial Crisis. Negative gearing has done nothing but continued this debt funded boom (bubble) that could end in tears one day. This has landed the majority of Australia’s capital cities in the most unaffordable housing markets in the world, I believe Sydney is number 2 in the world, with Melbourne close by. Get real and start talking about reducing this ridiculous subsidy. I am fed up with politicians doing nothing about negative gearing.

There is a clear conflict of interest of you are championing negative gearing and own an investment property.
