There should be no tax or fee increases for Austinites in this year’s budget – Austin families and businesses are already struggling to make ends meet with this historic inflation, gas prices, and trying to recover from the pandemic. This year, the City is already receiving $14.6 million in additional tax revenues from new development plus a projected $19 million increase in sales tax revenues - before raising a single fee or tax. A recent poll showed that a majority of Austinites believe that the unaffordability of Austin is the biggest issue our city faces. This tone-deaf proposed budget does not reflect those concerns.

Please don’t raise taxes any more. The government should not be exempt from the hardship of inflation. We need to work together to get through this.

Austin and Texas need an equivalent to Prop 13 in California which fixed the taxable value of a home at the purchase price with only very small increases.
