This is crazy BS.... SMH...... how can you tax every 2 yrs without seeing homes? Sad..... We better get more homeless camps ready... We are moving /building out of the state and bought 50 Acres near a Lake and taxes are affordable there.

The taxes for my almost 50 year old house in Glendale Gardens went from approx $2000 to over $3000! An increase of 50% that I can't afford!

Hours and hours spent gathering documentation, reading as much as I could to be ready for my informal interview. Appointment was set, then no one called. Rescheduled for several weeks later. Then, prepped again for my phone interview. Fortunately, the Tyler representative quickly looked over the documents I had already uploaded to agree with me our property shouldn't have been reclassified and reassessed 250% more than last year. She made an adjustment to my satisfaction, sent me copy of the document and we were finished.
Wouldn't it be easier to reassess at the point-of-purchase, when the property changes ownership? Allow residents to keep their Market Value assessment the same until the property is exchanged. Adjust levies as directed by votes. Let people upgrade their property without penalty of tax increase because they have improved their home.

I'M fed up with these assessments, they're not correct or legal as far as I'm concerned! Time to get it right!

We all know that this market is artificially inflated. This is only adding to the crippling increases in costs. Please don't contribute to this spiral. If anyone can remember 2008, then you know how this ends. With people losing their homes!

We were hit with a $500 increase for this next year and a $1500 increase for the following year on a 23 yr old home without any major updates...for no reason other than to bilk money from us. Our neighbors meanwhile all received REDUCTIONS in their taxes for similar homes. We were able to somewhat lower our "market value" at a preliminary hearing but we didn't do as well as we could have, because the guy was a stick in the mud even when he had no right to be so. We signed a document because we didn't think we could do any better only to find out we could have. It isn't fair at all! We still have no idea what the taxes will actually be. Getting any concession was not without great effort on our part and great inconvenience to contractors and us. This every two years taxation idea with automatic increases based on a photo of our home and no actual REAL appraisal and not based on any comps or anything in the same AGE RANGE is absolutely ridiculous.
It's just a way to get MORE MONEY out of residents in Jackson county---and indeed ALL Democratic-run counties and states! We saw this in Wisconsin and Illinois too. Slave party equals increased taxes to line pockets while the citizens' backs and wallets are broken and they lose their homes to unnecessary, unrealistic, and greedy taxation. And people wonder why the homeless rate is skyrocketing. It's by design and it's sad and sickening. Why on earth is "market value" the theme? Oh, perhaps it's because insurance companies use that term to cheat people out of their premium coverage. Insurance companies base "market value" on auction priced cars and then claim "market value" on your insurance claim to try to keep consumers from getting enough money from them to pay their claim and replace their car when someone else wrecks it. Now the taxing authorities are getting wise to that scheme and are using the same term "market value" and basing home value on "sales" prices

This petition information needs to be shared, and circulated to as many places on line as possible, so more people will know about it, and can sign it. I just happened on it by chance, but have been ready to sign one since this all started. We need to stand together and make our voices heard, otherwise they will just keep rubbing our noses in it, and we'll have to keep paying higher and higher taxes, on bad, incompetent assessments. So if it's possible to spread the word all over Jackson County, lets get it out there, so all can join in the fight!

Plus, those who paid an appraiser for a property appraisal, should be able to deduct it from their property taxes if the assessments are readjusted.

Given the hardship that this has placed on their constituents that voted for them, both the stress of outrageous tax increases that may force them out of their homes, and the hoops they've been forced to jump through to fight it and the treatment they've received while doing it, I would certainly hope that the Jackson County Legislature wouldn't have to think twice about doing this and it would be a unanimous vote. If it's not unanimous, there's your sign Jackson County voters.
