Why would the American University in Cairo be that servile to Egypt's former toppled regime? Weren't there any other honorable alumni and/or reputable dignitaries to inaugurate the New Campus, other than Ms. Mubarak and her son? We, AUCians, being part of the Egyptian community, want to cleanse our university from any symbol that belongs to the corrupted former regime. As the general prosecuter ordered Mubarak's family's assets to be frozen, it's proven that their fortune is suspicious. The president stepped down, and his family has gone away. After January 25th revolution, Egypt has been changing. In compatibility with this change, we do not want to see in our university a conference hall that carries the name of Mrs. Suzan Mubarak but to be named after The Martyrs. Thank you.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the momentum behind this because it was never something I imagined would grow this large. This movement belongs entirely to all of you who decided that our campus deserves a name that reflects our values. Please know that I am just a person who started a page and your energy is the real reason this is happening.

Naming it after the martyrs is the only right thing to do. The old regime is over and our school needs to quit acting like it isnt.
