Final supporters
The Students of Anderson University strongly urge the administration to reverse its decision to implement a mask MANDATE for the 2021 fall semester.
AU students are educated and informed and capable of making responsible decisions that protect their own health and the health and safety of the community around them.
While we recognize the intentions of the AU administration are to protect the health and safety of the student body, this mandate is not necessary and is arbitrary by nature. For example:
1. What about Student athletes practicing together?
2. Gatherings in the cafeteria?
3. Gatherings in the dorm?
While social consensus supports the wearing of masks to mitigate the fear of COVID, there is no scientific proof that mask mandates are effective in actually mitigating the spread of COVID.
So we petition the administration to revise its mask policy to be a recommendation, not an arbitrary mandate.
As a student signing this petition, I commit to exercise personal responsibility, sound judgement, science, and concern for my fellow students and faculty to apply safe practices to mitigate the spread of COVID.

Forcing people to wear masks is wrong. It should be each persons choice- not a requirement. If masks work, then all those who are worried about covid can wear them and should be fine if they have that much faith in masks. If they don’t work, then there’s no point in even wearing them. So either way, give people the choice.
I can understand having masks for the first two weeks to make sure no one is bringing it back from their home but beyond that it should be optional.
As a parent of several current college students, one at AU, this is disappointing. This is a personal choice. Puts such a damper on the spirit.
Please allow students to chose mask or no mask. It should not be mandated. It takes aware our free will that God gave us. The last thing we need to do as Christians is to live in fear.
If I have gotten the vaccine like medical professionals have recommended, I should not have to wear a mask which is less effective at reducing the spread of COVID 19.
To date the CDC can not provide any scientific research or studies that prove the efficacy of mask preventing human to human transmission. Please stop with the mask mandates.
Absurd that AU administration reinstated this mandate. After seeing the Instagram video explaining the various areas where the mask are required, it’s even more apparent the Admin is clueless. I assume Covid will only make a reappearance after move-in since all the social media showed no mask mandate. Parents, volunteers, and students all gathering in large groups with no fear of catching Covid.

It’s unnecessary when no one is required to wear a mask anywhere else. Students are going out with friends and taking it off whenever they have the chance, also no one where’s it like they are supposed to, so it’s useless
