In an effort to create a truly volunteer military, a free military for the United States of America we have written this act. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

As things stand now, the United States has a "volunteer" military yet forces all men (and perhaps soon women) to register at age 18 for military service if the government needs to draft (force) service. Even those who choose to enlist are treated as criminals and even traitors for simply deciding to leave the U.S. Military if they depart without approved discharge papers. Recently an enlisted man who got cold feet at the airport boarding his flight to basic training made headline news; this could be a simple change of heart rather than an act of treason. We need strong Americans who WANT to be there, not those who are there because in defending our rights, they lose theirs. Many of us may feel trapped in our daily tasks, work, home chores etc. but we ARE free to walk away. That is NOT SO with our enlisted men. They are TRAPPED; they signed up to be enslaved until they serve their contract, based on their individual understandings and impressions, and the desire to protect and serve honorably. They get the housing, food, clothes and supplies deemed neccessary and appropriate. Training is given that is deemed best suited to them, and appropriate. Once their contract is up, and return approved, they can be free again.

From this point forward the United States Military will be 100% FREEDOM ORIENTED, in goal and act, and will be an at-will act on the part of the enlisting/enrolling citizen.

At ANY POINT the citizen signing up for military service will be FREE to turn in a resignation, or walk away from serving in the armed forces.

Citizens will retain ALL of their rights while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Enrolled/enlisted citizens will also have recourse when faced with acts they deem unfit for a member of the United States or for themselves in their specific opinion. It is our hope that this will both prevent unfortunate situations that have happened in the past as a fact of simply following orders and that each and every soldier, man and woman, will evaluate their participation every day and every day decide to stay.

We endeavor to have the strongest and most fierce defense possible by having a willing and ardent free military as the United States Armed Forces.

I dream of a FREE military. A military where the soldiers stay once they see behind the curtain.

I even dream of a military where volunteers are taken for high risk missions, those with anticipated casualties, persons who are willing to risk it all THIS TIME for the greater good. We all are likely willing to lay down our lives to protect our innocent; certainly every enlisted soldier is for that important cause, that special mission. However to me, there IS acceptable risk based on the mission level and what else is being done to get it completed. After all, if this mission isn’t the final answer, what good does it do to be unavailable for the big one? Our soldiers also understand the value of contributing in smaller missions to give a greater overall advantage. That is why we should have a well informed military at all levels.

Perhaps some soldiers feel the same. I am not suggesting we change the military to unanimous vote down to the last Private for every strategy; I am suggesting a freer and well informed military, a stronger United States Armed Forces.
