This teaching load is outrageous and insulting to the profession and a hurdle to student learning. Any education administrator signing off on this should be ashamed of themselves and should quickly leave the "business" of education to work for a more "for profit at all costs' enterprise.

High quality instructors -- those with time to listen to students, read their writing with an ear to its content and intention, and respond thoughtfully -- are an *asset* to a university, not a cost. They deserve raises and more time: not all instruction happens during classroom hours.

Requiring faculty to teach extra courses -- without A) their input, and B) extra compensation -- constitutes unethical behavior. I expect more from a renowned insitution like Arizona State University.

This will lead to teachers leaving the profession by the dozens. How can someone get out of a 5/5 job if they have no time for professional development in order to stay competitive in the job market? They are completely stuck, and screwed.

This is appalling, spoken as a tenure track faculty member in English at the University of Washington. Do you want your students taught or merely processed. Sounds like the latter. You are cheating your students and committing unfair labor practices against your non-tenured faculty. Shame!

5/5 is too much for any instructor to do a good job with. Not only will the instructor suffer, though, the students and overall program will greatly suffer too!

Quality instruction suffers when quality instructors are spread too thin. 4/4 is too much. 5/5 is impossible.
