Assuring Community Participation in Johns Creek Planning Commission Meeting
The Providence Group zoning matter RZ-22-0003 was scheduled to be heard by the John's Creek Planning Commission on June 7, 2022. The developer requested and was granted deferral from the June 7th meeting. It was canceled without public notice and subsequently moved to July 5. Notification of the April 14 public participation meeting was limited in distribution resulting in minimal turnout. There is considerable interest among residents of surrounding neighborhoods in attending the Planning Commission Meeting to assure there is a record of concerned citizen perspectives in this matter. The rescheduled date falls immediately after a long holiday weekend, and in the middle of a traditional summer holiday week for many families. The selection of this date will once again limit public participation in the Planning Commission Meeting. It is noted that the Providence Group has recently notified some residents of a public participation meeting on June 29. However the public participation meeting does not include city representation nor is it recorded as part of the official record. To assure community voices and perspectives are heard by the Planning Commission, affected Johns Creek residents hereby request further deferral of this issue to the August 9th Planning Commission Meeting. We appreciate the City's consideration of residents' request for deferral commensurate with the consideration for deferral granted to the developer.
