Dear Mayor Emanuel,
The decision to privatize a public asset is an important one, with
long-term implications for taxpayers and government as a whole. The
parking meter privatization deal caused a significant disturbance and
could cost taxpayers as much as $1 billion in lost revenue. We want to
make sure major budget decisions like this are made with as much
transparency and public input as possible.
Please support the Asset Lease Taxpayer Protection Ordinance to improve the transparency of
any privatization leases, increase public input in the decision making
process, and ensure an independent evaluation of future deals.
