Libraries are so important to our communities and our future. Think of all the people, including school children, who can't afford to buy books, computers, or internet, and who rely on the library to do homework and research and learn. The library also provides many great programs that help teach people in our community and foster a life-long love of learning.

As a school librarian, and former school teacher, I can't begin to express how important it is for children of all ages to have access to well funded public libraries. They are a safe space, a place where learning happens, and a resource for developing life long readers who will become the kind of informed and active citizens we need.

Libraries offer the community so much. Books, computers, and Internet connections are an important part of what libraries provide. Also important are the community programs, especially the programs for the children. The programs at the library are often the first (and too often only) opportunity for children to be exposed to the arts...plays, readings, art, musical shows...experiences that can shape them into adults who appreciate the arts and who go to plays, readings, museums, and concerts. Libraries are a vital part of the community and need funding.

As a native of St. Joseph, MO, the public library was my lifeline to the rest of the world. Don't take that resource away from the people who still live there.
