These types of decisions should be made by parents, and doctors and therapists hired by the parents, not by the government. Laws like these restrict freedom to seek needed help and will have unintended consequences. If I were a legislator, I would not want to be responsible for those consequences.

I oppose the proposed language.
Better language needs to be drafted to allow teens to seek therapy according to freely chosen values and the rights of therapists to provide such.

As an LCSW I find it offensive that the state would attempt to limit my methods of therapy when working with ALL teens - whether straight or LGBT or questioning.

What happened to our agency to move forward in good and virtuous ways as one goes forward in their lives to learn what is best for them?
Please change the language to protect our youth and their families.

I'm concerned that this is a way to circumvent the state legislature. Last February, a similar bill was brought during the legislative session, and soundly defeated.
The concern with the ban on 'conversion therapy' is that while there is a type of conversation therapy' that has been shown to be damaging, the proposed law does not limit itself to that type. Instead, it has such a broad meaning that it can be used to silence and restrict those who seek to change their actions and choices-- which is completely possible-- rather than their attractions, which may or may not be possible.

We should have the right to look at both sides of an issue. Gender identity is not a closed book unless we close it. There are too many factors influencing gender choices to just say there are no alternatives to choose. The one thing we know for sure is that babies are born physically as boys or girls. We need to be open to a balanced and free discussion about the nature of gender choices.

The therapeutic modality and the course of treatment should be determined by the therapist, the family, and the individual. It must not be mandated by law or any other political body with a certain political ideology or agenda. That is a slippery slope to unfounded restrictions and losses of professional and individual freedoms.

Please help to preserve our constitutional rights of freedom of speech and of religion in allowing parents to seek the help they need for their children who are struggling with gender identity. Therapists need to be able to discuss freely with these teens all their concerns, questions, and values regarding any confusion they may be experiencing and not be restricted by biased laws.

As a victim of abuse, I think it is horrifying that politicians and legislators think they should control what goes on inside a therapists office with his client. Doctors should be making those decisions based on the interactions with the client, not on a fear of political correctness.

Please allow families to seek the help, counseling, and assistance they need. Do not bind the hands of professionals who may be able to help young people avoid a lifetime of medicalized dependence and possible regret from transgender treatments and surgeries. Gender confusion is a very real and very serious condition that needs thorough attention in order to best meet each individual's needs, which may or may not include affirming a young child's gendered feelings. Please continue to allow open discussion of gender dysphoria and the many options available to families facing this issue.
