Member AAFP since 1998; will likely sadly cancel my membership if the AAFP takes a public position supportive of abortion.

It has been some time since I felt that the AAFP considered the intelligent dialog of it’s majority members. As is now so common in our politically correct culture, the minority opinion (at the house of delegates), drives policy and position statements. Consider ACPeds or AAPLOG.

I have been a Family Physician for 30 years. I did Ob and OB ultrasounds for 15 years, Abortion is murder plain and simple. There is no way we should be supporting murder as family physicians. It is a life not tissue blob.

Protecting both mother and child are imperative for family practice. Abortion is not consistent with this goal.

I ask the leadership of the AAFP to refrain from embracing and promoting divisive political agendas such as promoting abortion. Our academy represents a very wide and varied group of physician. Our academy should promote a professional environment in which we can colegially interface about our differing views. We are to serve all our members above promoting special interest political views of some. Persistence in this behavior will result in a fractured, failing academy who will no longer have a unified voice to speak upon issues which are salient to and representative of all family physicians.
