The reason that I have been a loyal member and supporter of the AAFP for over 30 years to the exclusion of other physicians organizations (AMA etc.) is BECAUSE they have not taken a strong position on abortion rights. I love the AAFP. I regularly lecture at FMX. I want to continue doing so. But I will not be able to remain a part of an organization that supports the termination of human life. Praying for wisdom on the part of the leaders of our organization...

As an AAFP Fellow & member for the past 4 decades, I truly hope the AAFP doesn't follow the same membership decline as the AMA.

I am a family physician, MD, and I agree that abortion is against my hippocratic oath (as is euthanasia or "physician assisted suicide").

A 3rd year medical student saddened by the AAFPs recent language in support of abortion. One of the beautiful aspects of family medicine is caring for multiple generations of families. To be a true advocate for women means not only respecting patient autonomy but championing the support and social acceptance of so many women who wish for a child but are so fearful of judgement and hatred from the world. I cannot both vow to respect the life of all my patients and do no harm while at the same time pressured to participate or support in any way the destruction of a growing human life. I hope my future professional organization will continue to support those who have so fully devoted their lives to serving others as a physician and hold this view.

I have provided obstetrical care for more than 10 years, am an osteopathic physician (DO), and an active AAFP member. Abortion is not needed to save the life of the mother when we have seen such amazing advances in maternal fetal medicine and neonatology. We need to advocate for all people, especially the most vulnerable (the fetus and the elderly). My hope is that the AAFP will not succumb to political pressure but will stand for good, comprehensive, scientific healthcare for all.
