We demand the immediate removal of General Ashraf Kamal from his
position as Head of the Security Office of the American University in
Cairo (AUC). We will not stand for our
university security to be allied with and influenced by a current or
former member of State Security. We see his employment in our university
as acceptance of an agency that specializes in torture and abuse, one
that has been outlawed by the Egyptian people and which continues to
haunt the ongoing revolution. We will no longer stand to be associated
with a regime that used torture to preserve its power and to silence the
voices of Egyptians. To continue his employment is to not only live in
the past, but also in a state of denial and to condone the historical
actions of State Security. We are sure that our university can be a safe
area without the employment and the “experience” of a man who once held
a high position in the State Security of Egypt.

This is ridiculous. Why is he even there in the first place? Get him out now.
