Save Radio Foyle
On behalf of the Arts sector in Derry we, the undersigned object to the BBC’s proposed cuts to Radio Foyle’s Programmes and staff. As a local public service broadcaster the station is uniquely placed to provide information and reflect the quality of arts activities in the North West to the wider public. Radio Foyle has made a huge impact on the positive promotion of the arts and increased accessibility bringing new audiences to arts and cultural venues in the Derry area whilst also providing a platform for individuals and organizations. Radio Foyle has made a notable difference to attendance figures to events through the high quality promotion of events and live interviews with artists and providers. This service is invaluable as it reaches audiences that arts providers often find difficult to access. The proposed cuts therefore raise serious doubts about how the arts will be fairly promoted in the North West and how accessibility to the arts in the North West will ultimately be detrimentally affected.
