During my collegiate career, I have bounced from school to school. I have gone to a different college every year due to multiple reasons. However, I have finally found the place that I am most accepted. I am ready to graduate in December of 2014 with a Bachelor degree in Art. However, while putting my schedule together in the fall of 2013, my Advisor told me that in order to graduate I needed two semesters of intermediate level foreign language. This was the first I had heard of this requirement. And with three semesters left until graduation, I panicked. At my current college, not every class is offered every semester. But my Advisor signed me up for classes, aware of my goal to graduate in the fall of 2014, and didn't sign me up for a Spanish class. I trusted my Advisor in his decision and went about my day. However, it's down to crunch time, and I have one semester left until I'm supposed to graduate with no Spanish under my belt (except for 3 years of Spanish in high school and a 2 week vacation in Spain). I am doing everything I can to graduate in December, but it doesn't seem like anything will work. In order to take intermediate Spanish 1 in the fall, I have to take a placement test. And even if I get in Spanish 1 in the fall, I'll still have to take intermediate Spanish 2 in the spring which won't allow me to graduate in the fall. I am an art major. I can not comprehend why Spanish is a requirement for that type of major. I plan on taking pictures for a living. I don't understand why Spanish is required for that type of career, or really any career in art. This is breaking my heart. I have told all of my friends and family that I will be graduating in December. I will be the first child in my family out of 7 to graduate. Also, I am a soccer player here at my school. I have already signed my scholarship for the fall ONLY, meaning the scholarship money that I get for soccer will only be dispersed in the fall, leaving me with no money in the Spring if I do have to come back for that one Spanish class. I will have to pay for this class out of pocket, and am already in extreme debt due to student loans. I am at the home stretch and this is the ONLY thing standing in my way of graduating college and starting my life in the career that I want. Please help me kick start my future, and sign my petition saying that I should be allowed to graduate in December 2014!
