Renter in Arlington, the overnight parking ban is exploitative of people who don’t have access to parking, not all rental units provide a parking space and people need to be able to commute freely without being harassed with frivolous parking tickets

Much needed! Look at the Medford model, where each home is issued 2 guest permits. Also consider limiting parking to one side of the street. This is a solvable problem!

As a resident of Arlington, I've had the situation where the landlord does not provide parking and it was really hard having a car, given the fact that Arlington has bus connections only along Mass Ave. Not to mention I need my car for work. Luckily, at my current apartment I gave parking.

I think residents & local businesses should be allowed overnight permits for self, as well as overnight permits for guests. That way the vehicles parked on the street overnight belong in Arlington, whether living/ working here or invited by residents- not allowing random people to just park whenever they please within the town limits. That would control the amount of vehicles able to park overnight on the streets & the owners of the vehicles would be easy enough to locate if needed. Also, the parking laws & rules need to be better enforced. During the day there are too many people parking in areas designated “NO PARKING”. May sound petty, but it’s really not- there are good reasons for those restrictions: one big one that affects my household as well as my neighbor’s- when vehicles are parked in the designated “NO PARKING” across from our driveway (where we all currently are required to park overnight) it becomes difficult for us to enter & exit, to the point where there is risk of hitting the cars parked in said area. I have also experienced vehicles parked blocking my driveway on many occasions. We have called the police to request that they are stopped, but so far nothing has been done. Then when I went through the proper channels & secured an overnight permission for a guest to park in front of my house overnight & they actually received a ticket! Of course the ticket was removed, but not until I had to go to town hall to get it resolved. Maybe ticket the vehicles that are parked illegally instead? Anyway, I know this is not an opportunity to vent- all of what I am stating is applicable to the subject in the fact that if overnight permits were issued & parking was monitored better, things would be so much better for the residents of Arlington & there would still be ample revenue for the town, considering all of the vehicles that consistently park illegally, overnight & otherwise. The ban is ludicrous and disproportionately impacts people with the fewest resources.

Most households have driveways, residents are already allowed to park overnight on private ways, and the roads are quiet at night. Seems to work just fine in neighboring cities and towns. I would like the town to provide a legit reason why this would be an issue.

The lack of overnight parking is a huge concern of mine. It means that my boyfriend can't stay overnight without risking a ticket or even towing. I live in an apartment building with limited guest parking, and it feels as if this statute is discriminatory towards people who do not own single family homes with driveways. This is antithetical to the tenets of Greater Boston's city planning, which promotes greater density in housing units. Please reconsider this antiquated law.
